One of several pieces I'm currently working on is this
Based on the British sci fi show Doctor Who, this is a drawing of the Doctor played by Peter Capaldi.
This will be part colour and part black & white.
It was originally going to be a colour pencil background but I decided to use acrylic paints instead.

Here's a work in progress picture of one of the drawings I'm working on at the moment.
It's a large A2 sized colour pencil drawing with a sci fi/fantasy theme called Stargazer.
A woman with long blond hair, she's gazing thoughtfully up towards the sky.
She is wearing gothic style clothing with a black hood.
Colourful planets and star formations are all around her.

Still quite a lot of work to go on it yet but hoping to have the drawing finished soon.

Fracture. A colour pencil portrait drawing of a woman with red hair and green eyes. Glass is shattering around her

This is a colour pencil drawing that I did back in January 2014.

A profile portrait of a red haired woman with green eyes, there's broken glass shattering in the background behind her.
The idea of the shattered glass behind the girl came from a smashed photo frame that I had at home.

This is drawn on A4 Canson Bristol board.
I started out using Derwent Academy colour pencils (only had a small set of those when I started this). I got myself a large box of Derwent coloursoft pencils and finished it off using them.
The girl is based on a photo by Alraunie-stock -

Geddy Lee: A very detailed pencil drawing of the lead singer from the rock band Rush. Style: Realism

Here's a drawing that I finished in 2013. It's a pencil drawing of Geddy Lee from the rock band Rush.
Geddy is the lead singer, bass guitarist and keyboard player in the group.
I wanted to do something different than just a normal portrait, so there's all sorts going on here. There's his guitar on the metal studded wall, a keyboard hidden behind some clockwork and pipes and I drew Geddy as if it was a poster of him on the wall.
The idea is inspired by their Time Machine tour that they did a while ago.
The actual portrait of Geddy is only about 15cm x 16cm, less than half the size of A4.
I will eventually draw the other two members of the band, with the same theme to match.

The second drawing in the series is the gutarist Alex Lifeson and is already more than halfway done, I will post it here when I get it finished.

Geddy Lee: Rush Trio pt 1.
A4 (21cm x 29.7 cm) 220 gsm smooth cartridge paper.
Various grades of pencil ranging up to 6B, HB & 2B mechanical pencils(0.5mm), tortillions, tissues, cotton

buds and erasers.

Deano's blog is back. Have some new drawings to show you

Hi there folks, I'm back.
Been a long time since I used my blog last, sorry about being away from it for such a long time!
Looking at my last post, I noticed it's been over two years since I added any artwork on this blog.

I've got a lot of updating to do on here now and some new artworks to show you.

Here's a couple of drawings I did a while ago >>

Quite a dark drawing this one. Drawn in June 2013.
A woman in front of a round window, there's a crow on the window ledge outside. In the background, across a stretch of water, there's a cityscape.
There's lightning in the night sky.
Many thanks to lady-death-stock in Deviantart for allowing me the use of the photo I based the girl on -
, and thanks to peroni68 for the crow reference -
This is an A4 size drawing (29.7 x 21 cm) on 220gsm smooth cartridge paper.
Many grades of pencil ranging from 5H to 6B, a 0.5mm mechanical pencil (2B), tortillions, cotton buds, tissues and erasers.

This is a pastel drawing from October 2012.
A portrait of a woman looking onwards towards a planet, the darkness of outer space in the background.

I actually gave this as a gift to my stepfather, which he had framed and is now on the living room wall.

Soft pastels on black card.
The original size of the drawing is about 60cm x 32 cm (23 1/2 inch x 12 1/2 inch)

I now have a shop at Etsy where many of my original artworks are for sale, here's the link to my shop if you wish to take a look >>

I will continue to keep this blog updated from now on and will show you some more of my artwork in my next post.

New drawing - Jessica Alba. Very detailed and realistic pencil drawing of the actress. She is wearing a detailed white dress

Finally finished this, It's a drawing of Jessica Alba, I started this last year but kept putting it on hold. I'm glad to have it completed at last.
I used various grades of pencil ranging from 5H to 5B, HB & 2B mechanical pencils(0.5mm), blending stumps, tissues, cotton buds and erasers. Nothing special about the paper, just 130gsm cartridge paper.
Size is A3(42x29.7cm), had to scan it in two halves and piece it back together.

Alice - A portrait of a pet dog.

Hi. Just want to say sorry for not updating my blog for such a long time.
Anyway, here's a drawing that I did a while ago of a pet dog that I was asked to draw.
I will also have another new drawing to show you very soon.

This is a portrait of a pet dog that I was asked to draw.
I hadn't drawn an animal for a while and it was nice to draw something a bit different for a change.
I really enjoyed doing this.
It's drawn on A3 (42 x 29.7cm) 250gsm extra smooth Bristol board.
I used various grades of pencil ranging from 4H to 5B,
HB and 2B mechanical pencils (0.5mm), blending stumps, tissues, cotton buds, putty and normal erasers.

Work in progress: Rush trio part 1 - Geddy Lee

Work in progress:
Geddy Lee - Rush trio part 1

Part of a three piece project I'm working on, there will be two more drawings to go with it. This is a WIP of the first of one. It is Geddy Lee from the prog rock band Rush, he's the lead singer, bass player and plays the keyboards for the band.
Still needs plenty of work yet, you can now see where one of the guitars I drew the other day fits into it.
The idea for the background comes from Rush's current Time Machine tour.
Still got something else to add to it in that blank space.
The other two drawings to go with this will be Alex Lifeson ( lead guitar) and Neil Peart ( Drums).
I have not given up on the Jessica Alba drawing, just rested it for a little while and will be getting back to it soon.

New finished drawing called Keeping Secrets. A very detailed pencil portrait drawing of a woman. She has her finger on her lips and has a secret.

Keeping secrets.
Keeping secrets
Lots of dark and black in this, I went through so much pencil lead doing it.
I used a photo reference from SaligiaStock on deviantart –
I liked the contrast between the light and dark and thought it would make an interesting drawing.
Size is A4 (210mm x 297mm) 220gsm smooth cartridge paper, HB and 2B 5mm mechanical pencil,

various grades of pencil ranging from 4h to 5B, tissues, cotton buds, blending stumps and erasers.

Preview of some upcoming drawings.

Work in progress of a commissioned dog portrait - Alice.
The person I'm doing this for has very kindly been given permission to show you the progress of this drawing. Still much to do, shading blending and fine details will be done next, then it should really start to come together.
I'm enjoying drawing it and it's nice to be drawing an animal for a change.
It's quite large, drawn on size A3 smooth Bristol board.
So far I've used HB and 2B mechanical pencils.
I'm still trying to do bits on my other drawings in between doing it but mainly concentrating on this at the moment.

This is another of the pieces that I'm working on, just doing bits on this in between other drawings. Quite a lot still to do on it yet.
Reference for this comes from SaligiaStock on Deviantart -
I liked the contrast from dark to light. The black in the background really is that dark, I've gone through so much pencil lead doing it so far.
It's drawn on A4 220gsm smooth cartridge paper, so far using HB, 2B mechanical pencils(0.5mm) and 5B pencil.
I've not been too well recently and drawing progress has been slow, sorry for not keeping my blog updated,  but I'm much better now and am back in the swing of things.

Have not gotten round to finishing the Geddy Lee drawing that I showed you in my last post but plan to get it finished during this week.
